Salvation Nation
Salvation Nation
By Lynne Marie Cheney
Sharp, quick, beeps
And the shiny chrome truck of hope arrives
Weary eyes peer
Out from behind old curtains
Both have seen better days
Suddenly they come
Men, Women, and Tiny Children
Help has arrived
As they grasp for desperately needed comfort
They will see one more day
These are the forgotten and the unseen amongst us
Who cry out in the night
With no hope of anyone hearing
Birthdays pass, anniversaries too
Unnoticed and unobserved
For there is no one left to know or remember
Toothless smiles, and tattos
Few worldly good in tow
Adorn with the splendor of the streets
Yet their dignity remains
May this be said of all of us
Who knew God would be revealed in such as these
And our own hearts revealed in return?
God does work in mysterious ways
Polite grins and thank yous
They give us more then they will ever know
Suffer the little children and come unto me
And they do
Do not forget us
See Us
We Are You
